About the Bosch Praesideo digital network architecture

Unlike traditional PA systems, the Praesideo uses a network configuration - rather than having all system elements connected to central controller. The 'daisy chain' network topology means system elements can be connected or added at a later date to virtually any point.

The optical system cabling carries all signals, so no extra wiring is ever necessary. Smaller systems can easily be expanded to match changing requirements, for instance creating new zones. The flexible system architecture allows any type of equipment to be located wherever is most suitable in the building (for example power amplifiers can be located closer to the loudspeakers).

Redundant loop
What's more, by connecting the network ends together, a redundant loop is created so any break in the cable doesn't affect operation - an important consideration in an emergency system. Automatic switching to spare power amplifiers in the system is possible if equipment operation is disrupted.

Network monitoring
The network controller monitors the status of all equipment in the system and reports any status changes. This monitoring extends from the capsule of a Call Station microphone to the end of a loudspeaker line. The external cables connected to the control inputs are monitored for short and open circuit.

Fibre optic
Using fibre optic networking ensures high reliability and freedom from interference. The single network cable transmits all audio and control data.

Digital network with a 'redundant loop' and 'end of line loudspeaker supervision'
All of the Praesideo system units or nodes have plastic fibre optic interfaces. Plastic fibre is used to interconnect nodes which are less than 50m apart. For distances of more than 50m, glass fibre optic cable is used. A fibre interface unit is used to convert from plastic to glass or vice versa.

Fibre interface module - LBB 4401/00

For distances of more than 50m a Fibre Interface Module LBB 4414/00 is used to convert from plastic fibre cable to glass. The fibre interface is powered by 48Volts from the Network Controller LBB 4401/00 or automatically powered from a local power supply if connected. The local power supply being 48Volts DC and up to 250Watts.

The module has 2 interfaces:
1 x system network connection for Praesideo plastic fibre
1 x system network connection for glass optical connection. This interface is connected to the glass fibre cable via a glass patch cable and fibre breakout box.

Fibre breakout boxes

Fibre Breakout Boxes are used to terminate glass fibre optic cables. They can be supplied in Duplex with SC fibre connectors. The unit, constructed of 1mm steel is supplied loaded with 4 x SC Duplex connectors and are designed for wall or floor mounting and feature a screw down lid to prevent unauthorised access. The enclosure can easily be fixed to the rear of equipment racks. Dimensions 223mm (w) x 293mm (h) x 42mm (d).

A strain relief point is provided for the secure management of incoming fibre cables as well as the provision of a cable router to facilitate efficient and tidy fibre management. One side of the SC connector is used to connect to the installed fibre cable and the other side is used to connect a glass fibre patch cable to the Fibre Interface Module.

Fibre patch cords

Pressac Zeta SC Duplex fibre patch cords. Supplied standard (FIPC9) as 1m but available in other lengths (2m, 3m and 5m).

-Zirconia ceramic ferrules
-2.5mm outside diameter
-62.5u fibre with orange LSOH sheath

Fibre termination kits

Pressac Zeta fibre cold cure termination kit (FIZK1) comprises everything required to terminate and polish both 50 and 62.5 micron fibres with SC or ST connectors.

Using a cold cure epoxy and simple hand held polishing equipment, the kit contains the following items of equipment which enable quick and reliable termination of fibre.

The ST and SC connectors (not supplied with termination kit) required for termination are supplied in kits of 50 or 250 with appropriate quantities of material for termination. Included are strain relief boots for tight buffered 900u and jacketed 2.5mm cable.

Glass fibre optic cable - 62.5/125u - Multi mode, tight buffered cable

4-core multi-mode, tight buffered cable. The outer sheath is both flame retardant and low smoke zero halogen (for fire survival cable, see below). The design and construction of this cable has resulted in a light, easy to install and cost effective cable. 62.5/125 FDDI grade fibre, suitable for internal and external use. Cut to length service.

Glass fibre optic cable - 62.5/125u - Multi mode, loose tube, armoured

4-core loose tube armoured optical fibre cable for duct and direct burial installations.

The corrugated steel tape provides both high tensile strength and rodent protection. Low smoke zero halogen. Cut to length service.

Pre-terminated fibre optic cable

This pre-terminated fibre system significantly reduces both the time and the expertise required on site when installing fibre cabling.

Available in a choice of cable and connector styles, every cable length of pre-terminated fibre is supplied with a protective insulation sock and a power light source loss measurement. Pre-terminated 50/125 cables are available on request.

Pre-terminated cables are a special order, please check lead times with NTE sales.

Fire survival cable to IEC 60331-25

A 4-core loose tube multi-mode optical fibre fire survival cable in accordance with IEC 60331-25. The cable is constructed with a stainless steel tube with low smoke zero halogen sheath (LSOH) and includes a fire resistant jelly and fire swelling tape. The cable is supplied on 1000m drums.

The cable is also available with up to 24 optical fibres.
